Not sure where to post this but I´ll try here.

Q: A single discus with a breeding pair of sajicas in a 63g. Good or bad Idea?

You can see the tank in the photolounge ("my little sajicatank")

i have heard that sajicas can be mean during spawning and discus are pussies so probably not. your discus would probably be in for a rough ride.

What are your water paramenters? These species come from different areas of the world, Discus from Amazon and Putumayo River basins, and Sajicas from Costa Rica. The discus prefer softer more acidic water, sajicas come from neutral water that is slightly harder. With that being said, I have read Discus are bred enough commercially that they are tolerant to a wide spectrum of conditions.

I have never bred Sajicas, but I have heard that they can be as aggressive as Convicts when breeding. Your tank is large enough, but I would not want the discus to venture into the Sajicas' breeding territory as it would have no way to defend itself and would likely become an expensive casualty.

probably not

i have read that discus like to be in groups so a single is probably a bad ideal

sajica are not nearly as agro as cons when breeding but they still get an attitude.

Yeah i would leave it, really just because i would choose something less expensive and less sensitive. good tank mates for sajicas are thorichthys.......

i think you could try a severum in with them.
just make sure the sajica are bigger when you add the sev.

thanks for your replys. I have lots of dithers for the sajica but I feel that the tank need a nicelooking centerpiece, but I dont want to do anything stupid and I like discus. So more research for me. as for the severum Idea, I maybe wrong but don´t they eat plants a lot?
