Sajica male vs female

I had setup a 63g for a sajica couple and added the fish a couple weeks ago. I was hoping they would breed so I put in a cave and it all went good. Eggs and then fry, but in friday the male beat the crap out of the female, I tried to rescue her but she passed away over the night. Why did the male act like this?

Typical cichlid behaviour. Your male was ready to spawn again, yet the female wasn't. Which is one reason why it is a good thing to remove the fry early. Doing so will give the female the chance to put on some condition and be prepared for spawn around the same time. Ehtier that or serperate the male.
