I want to breed feeders for my fish and still want nice looking fish so I am looking at sajicas. They are a little more than the cons though. I am mostly looking at which produces the most and fastest growing fry. Which one would be better?

Can I get some direct answers? does one lay more eggs than the other? I am leaning towards sajicas because they are smaller and look a lot better.

I don't know which lays more eggs or the frequency at which they breed. But I voted for Sajicas simply because they are beautiful cichlids. Their fry can serve as feeders as well as a little extra money to some hobbyist. Selling them will ultimately depend on the demand in your area and your capability to ship. With Cons, you're basically just raising feeders and that's all. Most people can't even give Cons away for free. Sajicas will give you something pleasing to look at everyday instead of just serving as an endless feeding service.

Thats why I say Convicts. Why would you want to raise sajica for feeders? They are relatively hard to find and lots of people I know are looking for them and not to use as feeders. Sajica is one of the nicest of this group.

Because the OP said he wanted a fish that will produce plenty of fry AND be pleasing to look at, and when it comes to cons and sajica, it's no contest looks-wise.

The other reason, which Gruff also stated, is that you could produce feeders this way as well as sell any excess fry, whereas with the cons you couldn't give them away if you wanted to.

I get what you're saying..."Why use sajica for feeders when you can just use cons?" but your logic is faulty. In fact, I'd make the argument that if you have the choice of being able to breed either (be it for feeders or to sell fry) that sajica is the easy choice for the previously stated reasons.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I am probably going to do sajicas. Ill try and save as many as I can and feed my fish with some and give some away. I know someone who would love some sajicas and I have a couple LFS around me.

I think production wise it would probably be the convicts.

I've not spawned Sajica. But, btween Cutteri & Convicts- there wasn't a difference in production. So, I would think Sajica would be the same.

I was going to pick up a pair but it was closed. They will be open tomorrow. Ill get some then. I think Ive got sexing visually down but Im going to pick 3 up to increase my chance of getting 1 male and 1 female and ill return the other one.
