SAL / new world cichlid compatibility

would I be able to keep a SAL with medium sized new world cichlids (dempsey, chocolates, etc) or will it take chunks out of them or eat them?

do you mean salvini when you say SAL? i have a female salvini and she is not horribly aggressive. she does try to breed with any male she can though. she is with a texas, a clown loach and a bgk .

SAL = south american lungfish

Depends on the eventual size of the Cichlids. SALs still get to a notable size in captivity, so you have to ensure that they won't fit the SAL's mouth.

Well, I have a SAL in my 200 g tank. This is basically a CA/SA cichlid community tank, with knives, gar, plecos, catfishes and a couple ID sharks. No problem at all with my SAL, a very peaceful and calm fish.

You probably are not gonna have any trouble with it. SAL's are aggressive only with their own kind.
