I discovered a strange white bump on one side of my SAL, when it was about 4”. Now my SAL is about 7”, and the white spot/bump seems to be growing with it. No, it is not one of the yellow/green spots, it is definitely a white bump. It is only on the one part, just behind the back ‘leg.’

Is it bad?

Also, what are some good tank mates for SALs? I have it in with an albino Bichir at the moment, and they get along so far.

Have you treated it for parasites? There's a few different ones that treat for different parasites. I've treated my SAL using levamisole, prazipro, and cyropro (at different times and with a no medication period in between).

Also, do a shot of the other side near the back leg.

I had not specifically treated for parasites, but I did have it under quarantine the first few months. It’s been there the whole time (near as I can tell), and grows proportionately to it.

I do have NLS Hex Shield food and on hand.
Attached are more pics.

My boyfriend said he thinks it’s a poop hole because he saw poop coming from the spot? SAL acts normal. But then I saw something weird on it’s side, so that pic is included, too.
The last pic is from the “good” side.

Yup a poop hole. I would feed hexshield for a total of 5 days (every other day) to get rid of any intestinal parasites.

The other side may be a wound. I would get Seachem paraguard and use it if it gets worse. It's plant safe, but needs to be dosed everyday for 2 weeks. After a water change, you have to redose 3 hours later because water conditioner breaks it down too quickly.

Who knew the hole looks like that! I’m used to the slit my Bichir has.
Will do on the rest! I already started to fed Hex and was surprised at how readily SAL ate it! :woot:

Be sure to clean up the poop immediately, otherwise you will find a mess, especially when he gets much bigger. It doesn't stay a nice intact shape like the bichirs for very long.

Doesn’t look like the fishes anus to me . It looks like it’s on the side.
Looks like an anchor worm.
Am I missing something?

This is the first time I’ve seen anything ‘attached’ to it. Normally it’s just the white spot. I saw another picture of a lungfish someone had linked from photoshop that had it, too. It was in the Lungfish Poop thread.

But I did also post in another forum because I found weird detritus worms that had appeared in the tank as well. ?‍♀ I guess it can’t hurt just to treat the tank with some anti-parasite tools.

The things we do for our fish! : )

100% poop chute lol... i agree the pic is deceiving with the “string” coming out of it for anchor worm but Lungs dont have a typical anus placement. Surprisingly this is normal on the side behind the back leg. Rocksor Rocksor beat me to the punch.

O.P. No need to use any kind of meds IMO... looks healthy/well fed/normal. Clean water alone will heal the scratch on the other side.
