i was reading through websites about ropefish, and i came across a thread where someone had a newt with their ropefish. I'm planning on getting a senegal eventually, anyone ever paired up a newt/salamander with a bichir, and had it work? I have no idea if this is possible, but i havn't found a fully aquatic newt that can withstand the temps senegals need

I've seen it at LFS before, but IMO not worth the risk. Newts are poisonous so if the rope tries to eat one it could be the end of both. Axolotls I imagine could work.

Many newts are poisonous and polys do snack on amphibians. I would never risk it because of the risk of death to either animal.

If you truly love your pet, you wont make a risk like this. Axolotls are pretty calm creatures and many fish take advantage of the long flowing gills. I recomend keeping nothing with axolotls except axolotls or feeder fish or shrimp.

arent they two different type of species? one is amphibian and other is fish. Thus the two may require different cares.

I dont know about bichirs, but axolotls required 65-70 degree temperature. Any warmer can stress them out and cause problems. Axolotls also cannot have gravel substrate for they will eat them, causing impaction. For anyone wanting to do this, I strongly urge not to. I have a soft spot in my heart for axolotls especially. They are very gentle animals with really no way of defending themselves if a problem were to happen.

I was actually more curious if there was a type of newt that anyone had successfully kept with a bichir, that had similar care requirements.

As far as I know, no newt would work wellw ith bichirs. Most newts would stay small enough to be food for most bichir. The only salamander I know that gets semi large is a watl. Mud Puppies or sirens get pretty large as well, but I dont know about their care conditions.
