Getting conflicting advise on other sites about the salinity and specific gravity to keep a dragon goby at. Some say 'salinity' 5-10, some say 'specific gravity' 1.006-1.010. Of course they don't match on the hydrometer, that would be much too easy! I would like help on this from anyone knowledgable of dragon goby stuff. I'm slowly acclimating mine to brackish water, s.g. is at 1.004-1.006 right now. Need advice on how high to go for its' health and wellbeing.:)

Most hobbyists go by specific gravity, measured by a hydrometer/refractometer. DGs can live at many different salinities, even as high as SW.

So how can I tell when it's at a good level? My dg's very active, bright and shiny with the black and gold dashes on the top half of the body.( I had 4 ghost shrimp in there when I first bought her, they have all since 'disappeared'!) Should I just keep going towards the s.g. for SW or what?

They are one of those fish that needs BW but does not have to live in SW. It depends on the other tank mates you want to keep with it.

If you only have the dragon goby in there right now, that SG is perfect. Low-end brackish is perfectly suitable for them. What else do you intend on keeping in the tank, have you decided yet?

Thanks for your input:), I actually have 4 tetras in with it right now. They have the orange/red spot around the eye and the black spot on the tail. They have been in there for about 3 weeks and seem to be fine. It's funny, they follow the gd when ever it 'swims' around the tank, like they think it's part of their group! They aren't afraid of it and she doesn't seem to mind at all.:D

Tetras are softwater fish, which is the opposite of BW. Please find them a FW tank to live in.

I know that, but my daughter didn't know I have a brackish tank, and had put them in when I wasn't home. I was upset also that they hadn't been put in our quarentine tank first for a few weeks too!:irked: She has a 10 gl in her room w/5 guppies in it, I netted the tetras and quarentined them, told her they were going in HER tank when it's safe. My tank w/dg is off limits, now and forever, 'apon pain of death' - just kidding. So, what kind of fish can some one recommend I try with her? Already tried mollies, they wouldn't let her eat!

Her, meaning the goby, not your daughter? How big is the tank?
