no heavy rod or line, just quality equipment. Long rods are a must 8'6" or bigger, I would say a 9' rod would be a good start in M or ML power. For a reel You cant beat a Pflueger Trion for price and performance. Spool it with power pro in 15 pound test. I am not sure the angling methods in your neck the woods so you will have to do some observing, but with the basic setup I sujusted all you will need to learn is what tackle.
