How do u treat turtles for salmonella? My friend and i r just curious

Not sure how you treat them, but it doesn't effect them as it does with humans. They can only really carry it, there is no sickness. Just make sure to wash your hands very well after touching them. You may want some of that purell hand sanitizer.

Most reptiles carry salmonella. The best thing that you can do is just use common sense. Wash hands, dont put animal on or near food preperation sites ect.

BTW, the reason that turtles are most famous for this is because years ago they used to sell quarter sized Red Ears by the thousands and kids would handle them and then put thier hands or even the turtle in thier mouths. This is why it is now ILLEGAL to sell turtles with shells under 4".

Too bad parents back then didn't know about that. I want to get a tiny red ear for my friends pond. a full grown one is a bit big now until we can enlarge that pond. Trying to get a ditch witch in there now.

Even though 4" min is a law, people still do NOT understand it. The best way to keep it under control is to keep clean. Wash your hands, keep up with water changes, keep kids away, don't be lazy about the tank.

You can try to catch one if that's legal in your state.

Probably not, but I doubt they would know. We just never see any baby turtles around. Only big guys and most of those are softshells.

Most humans also carry Salmonella. I'm not saying don't be careful, but if you're healthy, you probably don't need to worry about it that much.

i dont think humans carry salmonella, but ALL humans carry e.coli. The number of individual E. coli bacteria in the feces that a human excretes (poop) in one day averages between 100 billion and 10 trillion.
