I have two 55g tanks and add salt and stress coat with my water change every week. Are they needed? I only add 10ml of SC and 3 Tablespoons of salt. They call for way more but i think thats just to get you to buy more. I understand salt helps heal, and stress coat helps slime but is it needed?? I have well water and never add cond because it is not needed my water is good. Never have problems just don't want to add stuff that is not needed. Fish are african cichlids in one, and comm in the other.

All you people on this site rock and are so helpful tytytytyty. I never thought i would be so into aquariums now i just want bigger bigger bigger!!!!

None is needed that much. Keep the salt in your cabinet. Your fish can produce slime coat just fine without the need for stress coat. Aloe vera will only double the amount of slime coat produced sometimes suffocating the fish as a result.

All you need is dechlorinator.

Ahh. Yes, if it is not laced with chlorine and chloramine, then you don't need that.

What type of salt are you adding? If you are adding the "aquarium salt"- just go to Lowe's and get solar salt.. it's the SAME thing, for way cheaper.

I keep africans, and I use baking soda to raise the ph where it's needed, and I also add epsom salt because it's got nutrients in it. I've seen their color come out on my Fronts so well since I started adding it.. About 2 tsp per 30 gallons.

But no, none of what you mentioned is needed on a regular water change basis.

I just add direct tap water and salt into the tank - fish seem happy and healthy

I can only suggest doing the direct tap water if you have a big tank.
