how much aquarium salt shall I add to mytiger tank?
The salt is to act as an general tonic and stress reducer , I have read once in a while a litle salt can benefit the datnoids health.

How many days shall add salt for? Do I need to do water change before I add salt each time?

i have never added salt for any reason to my tank

all the fish i keep are FW not BW :naughty:

my bichir had sort of tattered fins so i added 1table spoon per 5 gallons and then next couple of days it cleared up. maybe its just coincidence but the salt kicked ass. but you might wanna only add it for a reason, sickness ect.

Ok thanks. It's not intended for regular use, just a one off.. A couple of dats have got small grazes on there body/scales probably due to fighting.

Any way, added salt 5 days ago and the dats have fully healed!

I use salt all the time...They say it improves gill function and recovery from injurys. I use 1 tablespoon for 5gallons of water. They say all freshwater rivers and ponds or whatever has some level of salt in it so by adding salt its not making it brackish. To make it brackish you need to add alot more i just dont remember how much. My dats and other fish have done fine for years and ive never had a problem. Just so you know once you add salt it will never leave your water even if the water evaporates the salt will stay. They only way to get rid of it is to do water changes. Hope this helps you out bro.

X2

I used even more salt. Commercially available marine salts. My dats always seemed very healthy and never sick.

I knew there were a few other people on here that used alot like that but wasnt sure who....Dats seem like they can take salt levels all the way up to saltwater and high ph outside the normal range no problem and can go with out salt and low ph. Makes you wonder what dats should really be in sometimes. I also heard that people who have run into datnoid disease used some much salt their water was pretty much salt and the dats lived in it and it helped with get rid of the disease.

Try the experiment with what dats can be in and let us know
