I have heard it is good to put alittle salt in freshwater tanks and I am wondering what your thoughts are and how much salt is a good idea

Generally speaking, it is not necessary to have to add salt to freshwater tank, unless treating for disease for example

I wanted to use it because I just found little white slug looking things about 3mil long on the glass. Have any idea what they are?

Not sure but..if you want to use salt
Go 1 tablespoon for 5 gallons, google your particular species first and make sure salt is safe for them, there are many harmless little critters that can find there way into your tank, there are some bad ones too,but most won't harm your fish

I use it sometimes when I get fish shipped to me - I've heard it helps them regenerate slimecoat. I've never noticed it doing much of anything though. Lots of clean, dechlorinated water is the best thing you can do.

Goggle planaria, if that's what you see, as opposed to salt, you need to do more frequent partial water changes. They are a sign of waste, or excess food buildup.

X2, sounds like planaria to me too... most likely from over-feeding, or left-over food in the tank...

If you don't already, make sure you vacuum the bottom of your tank (especially if you have a substrate), and under deco incase there is any left over food etc...
