DO NOT GIVE SALT FOR ICH!!
woud you give salt to a sick cat or dog? NO!! it would damage thair "Kidneys" and "Liver"!:WHOA:

fish also have kidneys and a liver too and can die if they are damaged by salt! :WHOA:USE SOME REAL MEDS!!!:WHOA::WHOA::WHOA:

I hope this will be a stickey!

What are you talking about? Taking a quick salt dip will kill off the ich. Small amounts of salt is beneficial to most freshwater fish. And I'm sure that salt doesn't affect fish the same way salt affects us.

Random gibberish like this could lead someone to making poor decisions. Salt and raised temp is a proven method for treating it.

just wondering, what kind of salt do you need to use marine salt or those freshwater salt?

Not marine salt, it contains a lot of other unrequired trace elements and is much more expensive.

Deepblue101, salt treatments for freshwater fish have a long and well documented history of success. If you can support you statement withfacts, evidence, or documentation please do so.
Until then it will not be a sticky, just another discarded opinion.

I'll be interested which meds would be safer than salt. Not many fish can handle certain meds and a lot of meds are harsher than salt. I see no problem to the contrary in using salt to treat ich. Adding salt for no valid reason however is another story.

Guppy has a point. I have seen plenty of successful cases in using salt to battle ich.

deepblue, ever heard of "ELECTROLYTES"? these are very beneficial to fishes health and boosted by aqauarium salt in fw, n00b
