Is it okay to add any amount of salt to a planted tank? My clown loaches have a bad case of ich :( and I know salt will help. I am currently adding formalin/malachite green mixture. What can I do to combat these parasites without killing my plants?

eeek :S Clown loach got ich! Quarintine!! MR Loach!!! but i dont think a lil salt woudl hurt the plants.. even though plants dont like salt.. depends on the kind of plants, what greens do you have =D? how about putting mr loach in qurintine tank with half dossage of meds with air stone combo! =^_________^=

umm as long as ur other fish arent being stressed out and are healthy they shouldnt get ich, the ich is in all water =S

umm but yes like what Angel says, quarintine =^___^=

ich isnt in all aquariums, it is a parasite and can not live with out a host. if there enough of them they can infect you other fish but you may not be able to sell because they often live in a fished gills. Raising the temp above 86 has always worked well for me. Salt is some what optional IMO but I do think it helps.

dont add malchalite green with loaches!!! it will wipe them out FAST!!!
try using ich remedies from natural herbs and stuff.

hmm

Ich exists in an encysted form in every aquarium.

Ok lets say hypothetically speaking, a healthy fish was brought/assimulated properly into a healthy well established tank with no ich. Been doign great for months and all of a sudden lets say something was to cuase alot of stress to that fish, and so the stress makes it lose itz slime coast making it vuneralble and the next day it gets ich.

So how did that fish get ich? If the tank was healthy?
How did the ich get there? Even with UV Steralizers they still get it if they are really stressed.

Not to question your Knowledge or anything so dont take this the wrong way.... It is good to hear what others have to say.

Im pretty sure something in that tank stressed the clown loach out cuasing it to loss itz slime coast, allowing ich to cling to it.

Yes itz true ich will die if it does not have a host. so lets say the entire tank is now cured from ich. The fish is doing fine for months. LEts say something really stresses it out again. And so it gets ich again. How did it get ich?
