the last few days my jardini has been scratching/rubbing...so i began treating the tank with salt. the tank is 260L and the recommended dose is 1 teaspoon for every 5L(which would be 50 for my entire tank). I added 20 teaspoons on day1(monday),and 20 teaspoons on day 2(tuesday)...now he's still scratching now and then(not as often or vigerous)...so would it be wise to add more salt? maybe another 20 teaspoons? Im not quite sure how much salt is too much..any ideas?
thanks

depends on how big your tank is to calculate how much salt is needed to be in your tank....well is there any parasites or bugs in your tank...white spots on your fish? just keep making frequent water changes and see if that helps...

If you do the salt thing just monitor for a week
Normal salt dosage is around 1 gram per litre or 4 grams per gallon.
You can go up to 3 grams per litre or 10 grams per gallon.
Raise you tank temperature to 30-32 degrees celsius (86-90 F)
Partial water changes every few days is good.

If you still have the rubbing issue, you more than likely still have some sort of parasite, and will need to dose with anti parasitic medication. From my experience with anti parasitic medication and arowanas, is that you never overdose the medication, and normally have to use follow up dosages to fix the issue.
when using anti parasitic medication, keep the tank temperature under 80 degrees F, keep the water neutral to slightly acidic, and dilute the salt out of the tank with normal water changes.

Once finished the anti parasitic treatment, it's a good idea to give the fish some antibacterial treatment for any secondary infection the parasites may have caused.
Usually salt treatment will surfice for this, or a treatment of cajut oil or similar will do. There should be need to go for the hard stuff like tetracycline.

Do you feed your jardini live feeders ?

thanks for the replies..the jardini is still having a scratch now and then..and some erratic swimming (curving round)...he's not jumping out of the water or anything...just light flashing...
other than the scratching he seems really happy in the tank,he''s swimming round a lot exploring...eating really well..bloodworm and meal worm. no live feeders. im going to leave the salt for about 10 days or so and if he's not completely better i'll put him in a quarantine tank and treat with anti-parasite.
