I tried to use the search but had no luck close but couldnt get what I wanted.

The scoop is Im going out of town tomorrow at 5pm and noticed my arowana scratching his sides. I did research and found the most common parasite that comes in with feeders is lice, and anchor worms. Bought clout, before I read the back, no scaleless fish. DANG I have 2 scombs and 1 tat, (vampire tetras).

I did a waterchange like 3 days ago because I noticed a stupid convict scratching on the bottom and treated with some salt. I changed about 60 gallons and added about 10 teaspoons to the mix.

How much salt do I add to make it affective to kill parasites?? Will salt even halp with parasites?? How do I not kill my tetras, eather way I need to treat the whole tank, I dont want to take out any fish. I heard a teaspoon per gallon, is that of gallons I add or gallons all togather and I dont want the last salt treatment to affect this one, left over salt.

My water is PH 7/A. 0 Nitrite 0/ Nitrate 20. My tank water is always good its just these live eaters. I also am in the proses of breeding to feed so I dont have to deal with this. PLEASE HELP>?

You should dose the tank for the full volume of water. Since you only dosed for the 60g you replaced, you can add more salt. I always add 1 tablespoon per 5g of water. The salt needs to be disolved in water first and then slowly added to the tank.

BTW, what are your water params? If the water condition is high in nitrates, ammonia, or nitrites fish will flash also. It could be other things besides parasites.

My pms are listed above, AMMONIA 0 NITRITE 0 NITRATE 20 PH 7/

I keep good care of my water and the condition is norm right on, but from the live feeders will bring in pests somtimes, THANKS for your imput.

I will set up for a W/C right now and load the bucket :D, I really think it is parasites, should I vac the gravel and do like a 40% or since my water is good dont change a lot?

Thanks again, always somthing seems to come up before a vaca!

Ok im back in town with a few more questions, how do I move a thread, maybe if I put it in other charicans ill get more hits?

No way am I blaming other people but I went out of town and then the last few days my dad must have gone out of town and a light was left on for I dont know how long and my tank is COVERED in green slime algea I mean covered like foot long strands, I should post a pick but dont want to get made fun of, I take some pride in my tanks.

Lighthouse, what do you think could be the cause problems other than parasites, the only visible thing on the arowana is he will dart (ok maybe skittish) but he will rub his sides with his fins, not a lot but enough to make me want is out, never rubbing himself on tank objects. His fins are also not like spread out super far, could be me though, nothing visible on his body or behind gills or anthing Ill post pics if anyone thinks it will help?

Another problem, one of my odoes looks like he may have ich, (some white spots but not covered weird maybe 10 ta 15) and will shake lightly, not ever rub or dart but almost vibrate, IM NOT HAPPY but he ate today so I am not to late to treat.

Questions, should I take out the tetras, whom all look, eat, and act good out treat them with salt, I have an empty 30? Then treat the whole main tank with a parasite remover? The arowana and pike charicans have scales so I am not scared to treat them, then do the W/C. that the directions recomend?

I dont know what to do, I know the water pm in my tank wont be bad but ill check it tomorrow and do a WC anyway ( do about 50 gal weekly)? Ill post pics of that if anyone wants, I use the good drops. I wasnt trying to be an ass when I said my pm's are listed above:eek3:, is that why you didnt respond, haha I like the comments. THANKS.

I will keep talking to myself.

I got API salt and am going to turn up the heat, also got another air bubbler. My current temp is 82, I just cranked it up a little, and am going to do a good WC about 50 gallons, and hit it with 15 tablespoons of salt.

Wish me luck or somthing. :irked:

payara are not scaless. Alot of people say they are sensitive to medications. But I have treated 10-12 scombs and 4 tats with antibiotics and other meds in the past with no ill effects. So there is no worries about the meds you are using effecting the payara.------------------------------------for the salt, it is usually used at 1 table spoon for every 5 gallons of tank water. It actually takes alot more to kill off most parasites that have allready infected your fish. But the salt does help the fish grow a better slime coat which is there protection against parasites.-----------------A medication that I would reccommend is jungle labs parasite clear and there fungus clear. Those 2 meds have many different medications in them and can be used together. I use them once a month every time I get new feeders. You think you have parasites so that why I say parasite clear, and the fungus clear will get rid of that white spot on the odeo. --------------As a keeper of payara you know that feeders are a way of life for these fish, as they are hard to break from live foods. so you may want to look into setting up a feeder tank. That way you can pretreat the food and weed out any that are sick.

Hey thank you thank you. Did not know they have scales, I thought I heard otherwise, good to know. They were the only fish I was worried about, to bad I read this after I did the w/c haha.

What I did was added what you said, a tablespoon for every 5 gallons of water I added. (figured I had some salt in from the last w/c) API salt. Bumbed up the heat, and treated with somthing recomended by a LFS owner, 1 drop per 10 gallons, and I added a little less it was from the back room dont rember what he called it. I also put 10 drops of garlic xtract in the water, soaked a few feeders in it,(everybody ate a garlic soaked feeder) and 2 drops on a few hikari sticks for the Aro.(also eaten)

My penn plax temp is showing 84-86, which should be good for a few days? But one thing I noticed is my tat loves the warm water, I messed with my therm. a few months back and after work noticed the water was like 88turned the temp down and noticed the tat was out, and active, which he is normaly sitting under a rock, and this morning he is also out. Got another bubbler too and added a pump to puch water, cause I know they like current ;)

Before I ramble too much and you stop reading ill ride it out a few days, everyone looks a little better this morning though. Ooo and as the feeders go I have a 10 gall feeder tank, but a lot of time the stores run low and I have to put them directly in, no water but netted. Maybe Ill get rid of my stupid convict breeding experement and just fill it with feeders, Thanks for your time!!!
