Salt water lighting question

I have just setup my salt water tank and have a coralife comp. florcent light hood. I have live rock in the tank and want to know if I should leave the light on during the day or for just a few hours as to not get a bunch of bad algae.

if you just set it up i would only use the light about 5 hrs a day until you start getting the GOOD Algae Growing..the Bad can't compete with the good..then i would start leaving the light on longer

what do you plan on having in the tank??? FIsh only i assume??

Yes it is going to be a fish only tank. I just wasn't sure if the live rock would be ok without the light.

I would leave the light off completly until the rock is fully cycled. Save you the trouble off growing the nuissance algae.
