HI everyone im thinking about setting up a 55 gallon salt water tank and i was wondering if you could give me a couple of tips. Such as what type of filter would be the best and basically what all i will need to setup my salt water tank. I have never set one up before and i dont have a clue what to do. Any help will be appreciated thank you

live rock and sand, powerheads, if your planning a heavy bioload a protein skimmer, and a good set of lights.

What are you wanting to put in it? Live coral or fish?

Have you never set up a tank before or just never set up a salt water tank? If your new all together you might want to start with freshwater maybe (you can use most the gear, filter, etc later on to convert it into salt). Might be the easiest route for you. By easiest I mean cheapest, less headache for a newcomer, esp on a 55 gallon. Welcome to MFK.

I already have a 55 gallon freshwater tank that i setup and i just got another 55 for free and i wanted to see how difficult it was to maintain. I wanted to get a lionfish to put in it
