so i found a 180 gallon tank with everything, incuding a 40gallon wet/dry...

it was set-up for salt water for 8 years...how would i go about setting this up for fresh water??? ...how should i clean the tank and sump? ...should i reuse the bio-balls?

i dont want to raise the PH or salinity by a crappy cleaning job...please help

thanks guys

just rinse everything really well, especially the sump and then set it back up. and yes you can still use the bio-balls and all the same filters except the protien skimmer.

I just did 90gal FW which was used for SW for 3-4 years,All i did was rinse real good and sprayed in side with 1prt vinegar/6 prt water. used single edge razor to get hard spots! watch and avoid all seams very carefully with razor! :)

sounds really easy!....well, i didnt get the tank yet..i was just wondering if it was hard to clean before i do buy it....thanks guys

If you use a bit of elbow grease and dont slack off, you should be done in an hour or two which is a small time frame for all the enjoyment you'll get from it.

Try to remove as much calcium/salt residue as possible. All this will raise your pH.

A good rinsing is all you will need. If you have it clean enough to enoy having it set up then you are good to go. The tiny bit of salt that might be left behind will make next to no difference in 180 gallons of water.
