Im thinking of buying a used 8x4x2 acrylic tank that is curently in use with Salt water. I have freshwater fish and what would I have to do to get the saltwater out (not talking about draining the tank)? Is there something special I have to do to the tank, or just a real good tank wash?

thanks

You will need to get rid of the salt water. obviously. You could do a nice spray down or wipe down. If a little salt is still there that will be ok. A little salt is go for the fish. I personally have never done anything special when switching from salt to fresh. IO have not had any issues.

Anyone esle have more info, or is this it??? Just want to tripple check cause I don't want to loose my fish over something I failed to do:D:popcorn:

well, we could just cover our bases and say to take the saltwater out before you put the fish in

No really, we're just joking around because there really isn't anything to it. The only thing would be for pure aesthetics and that's if it has a lot of salt build up on it. When I switch tanks (not just SW to FW or vice-versa). I empty the tank, clean it out, set it up, fill it with a 1:20 solution of bleach and water, drain, rinse, repeat lots of times, fill with triple dechlor water, drain one more time and you should be good to go. But that is just me being anal.

Man, I dont want to add any kind of bleach or any soap. I have some Payaras and they are not the hardiest fish. Thats why I'm asking Q's:D.
I will be using my own filteration and sump (from fw set up) and just the tank with overflow is from the salt set up.
Well I guess just a good rinse... by the way it is a 8x4x2 with center overflow, but still debating if 2,000.00 is a good deal just for the tank:D

If it is just a bare tank you won't have a problem.

I did have a severe crash about a month after switching my tank, it turns out there were a lot of tubeworms, bristleworms, limpets, etcetera in the sump. They lived in the freshwater for a while and then when they died things got ugly.

What ever has to do with salt to fresh:D:popcorn:

As said before, clean it good. I got a free 90g that was used for salt. I took it home and turned it on its side. Hose in one hand and razor blade in the other carefully scraping the glass but avoiding the silicone. Been keeping discus in it for like 6 years now. Never a problem.

I had a 55g i switched from salt to fresh....just scrubbed her out and several good rinses....was good as new. You shouldnt have any problems.
