i have a 75 g tank with a royal plec and want to dose with salt. will my royal be alright? 1 maybe 2 of my bolivian rams i believe has ich. he is very pale and fins are clamped along with him spazzing and flipping out. is this ich?

Is this ich?? Does your fish look likes it's covered in grains of salt? I would not does salt at all. Get some "Ich cure" or whatever it's called by Jungle labs and does at half the amount for a few days. Basically, follow the instructions on the bottle. Works great. I've treated tanks with catfish, plecos, etc.

Never had issues treating my own plecos, other catfishes and loaches with salt. The instructions to administer for plecos are in the sticky threads here. Dissolution and gradual addition are key to prevent the plecos from suffering osmotic shock.

Dissolution and gradual addition should be used anytime salt is added to a tank. It is caustic to the fish if not done this way. Ideally, you want to pre-mix salt water for 12-24 hours.

MsMassPoly : Why not? Use dye types, I mean? I've done it dozens of times, with no ill effects. Usually you use at half strength.

Well since plecos have a different skin some tend to be very sensitive.Clamped fins and scratching/itching i always use coppersafe with plecos. It takes longer to cure but better on the fish.
