i am thinking about getting my feet wet with saltwater. I have had fresh for about 12 years. my question is, what would be some good fish to start with? is a 20 high good enough? any other useful tips?

Thanks
Josh

personally i'd do a 30 or better yet like a 55 or smoething. the 30 will be cheaper but the 55 will be easier to care for. a 20H is fine but make sure there's somekind of aeration, a sump for a filter or lots of pwerheads aimed up or a HOB filter or something, cause marine tanks don't hold as much O2 and 20H's don't have a lot of water-air contact area.
some good fish would be firefish, clowns, damsels, gobies, blennies, if you go to liveaquaria.com there's a whole section for nano SW fish.

Like BIGgourami said, it would be wise to start with a larger tank.

I would start with something 40 gallons or more. Reason is, in a larger volume of water its much easier to keep the water parameters stable.

A good book to start with is The Concientious Marine Aquarist by Robert Fenner. Lots of information useful for getting started. I highly reccomend it.

I did a write up on my first Saltwater tank from start to finish (Sticky) over on Aquatic Predators..lots of good info to start with but I have learned a lot since then.

DONT DO CRUSHED CORAL SUBSTRATE...use Arogonite. Get Good Live Rock. Don't skimp on your wet/dry or Skimmer. And buy a true refractometer, don't trust the cheap plastic float types.

Make sure you have lot's of flow w/ powerheads and a large return pump.

My 2 cents, good luck...and you should worry..It's Addictive!
