saltwater beach sand in a feshwater setup

I believe taking sand from U.S. beaches is illegal, from what I've read. Plus there could be way too many contaminates. Could being the keyword.

BUT I just saw that you're in Canada, so contaminates would be my main concern.

you can get pool filter sand for 10 bucks a 50 lb bag why would you even chance marine sand? im pretty sure its a bad idea
