I have a 90 gal tank with a corner overflow. A wet/dry for up to a 300gal tank, with a protien skimmer, and 3 media drawers. I have carbon, carbon-phos mix, and phos pads, and media balls, and a 1300gph pump. The protien skimmer pump is aprox 300gph with an air pump. A 300 watt heater, and 4 floresant lights. I currently have it set up as a fresh water ciclid tank. If I put metal halide lights on it would I be able to switch the tank over to a salt water tank?? I have never had a salt water tank, I would like to buy a 125 or 180 gal tank and switch over the filtration setup. Do you think this setup would work on a 125-180 gal tank? Or would I have to get a larger pump?? Also is a 300gph pump large enough for a protien skimmer?? ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APRIETIETED. THAKS!!!!!!!

well what kind of skimmer is it you have? for salt water fish only, they dont care about the lighting. with salt, you really want to use live rock for the filter as well as the skimmer. you can take the bioballs out of filter... they'll cause high nitrates. first thing you need to worry about is the skimmer.

yeah you can actually use LR in the sump to keep it out out the show tank if that's a problem.
unless you are doing a reef tank halides are a waste of money.
yeah i think the tank will be fine. it sounds totslly over filtered! :D:D:D

I dont know what kind of skimmer it is it is part of the wet/dry system. The water comes from the overflow in the tank to the wet/dry. The protien skimmer is just a pump with pvc fittings that rought the water into a round cylnder with a collection cup on the top. The pvc tubing also has an air fitting. The water then runs to the next section with the media bags, then under those are the media balls through a sponge then there is the pump to pump the water back into the tank. I dont know what kind of wet/dry it is I bought it on ebay. After 2-3 weeks the pump on the skimmer went out. So I bought a larger one to circulate the water, and took the old smaller one, and switched it to the skimmer. But I never get anything in the collection cup on the top. I used to with the smaller pump. But the tank is crystal clear. Do you think this set up is alright?????? Or do I need to make some changes????????? Thanks-Dave
