Saltwater tank for sump

I found a 55 gallon fishtank that was running salt that is fairly cheap that I would like to buy and use for a sump. Would this be fine even though it was used for saltwater? I would think it is as long as I clean it but you never know! I would rather be safe than sorry and ask you guys
