Saltwater to Freshwater?

Hey everyone! Is it okay to use former saltwater equipment for my freshwater fish? Tanks, filters, uv sterilizers, powerheads, substrate, etc.??? I was told by the LFS to clean it up with white vinegar and I'd be fine...but I take everything they say with a grain of salt! Haha no pun intended! But I trust you all far more. Thanks, any advice is appreciated. I scored an amazing deal on a bunch of stuff but im now afraid to use it.
