I got these two some time in the beginning of the year with another male that i named Jimmy Hoffa cause i have no idea what happened to him lol. Anyway, these two were pretty much a gift and i decided to keep them in my growout tanks and just moved them into my 180 a couple weeks ago. The female has been ready and mature for like a month or so. When i moved them into the 180 she tried hooking up with my male Istlanum lol the male Sal was basically a punching bag for her and looked nowhere like this last week.. He literally came out of nowhere with his assertiveness and color. Which now seems to trying to court the female;) I really havent had plans on keeping these two so i dont know what the longevity will be. But i do like their colors and personalities. They seem to be lil wrecking balls in this tank, bombing on the umbees, midas in the tank. Maybe theyll spawn but it looks like ill have to move them because iam getting some smaller female istlanums to add to the tank to pair out my male istlanums and i think the Sals will be in the way.. but here are some pics of my lil newly formed pair:)

Very beautiful pair! These are one of my favorite cichlids. I have breed two different pairs in the past and their spawning colors and aggression while spawning are second to none. Good luck with them.

Nice sals and good luck w/ the breeding. Sounds like they will be a solid pair.

Thank you. i am no expert when it comes to Sals, so i really dont know what to look for whether they are nice or not. I do like their colors tho:)

Gorgeous pair, always nice to see sals appreciated

Thank you. I like to switch things up now and then because iam able to learn and appreciate species that i havent had before or really thought much of. I also picked up some Tomocichla Seiboldii from Aclockworkorange that are doing great but still little:)

That males's colors are amazing. Was he always that colorful, or did he get more colorful w/ the female? I wish my male looked that nice. Ali how big are they now?

Thank you, and no he didnt always look like that. in fact just over a week ago he looked like a whippin boy with no color. i didnt think he was gonna make it in the tank with an Istlanum pair and a very dominate female Sal. And now he looks like this!!! i am amazed with this lil male, apparently his balls dropped over the last week and he must have realized that its do or die in his situation. I would say the female is3.5-4" and the male is the same size.

Lol glad he has some balls as a male sal should. My sal is about 4" and wimpy, and I hope that changes. He gets picked on by smaller HRPs lol.
