Ok i have a female salvini and i went to the lfs looking for a male the had one sal in a tank filled with jds and texas cichlids , the sal was hiding but from what i saw it was a male. So the female that helped me , she had a hard time catching that lone sal and got all wet in the process, so she bagged it up and it gave it to me. Now that i am able to get a good look at the sal in the bag it appears to be female to me , but i felt sorry for the girl that helped me out so i decided to keep the sal and i got home and put it in with my female sal and after introduction the new sal was in the middle of tank stressed as the con would let it in its terriorty and the sal would not let its in its domain , it was like that the whole day , so i wake up today and looks like the sals paired off. my question is it possible for two females sals to pair off and i took some pics with camera but they are not that good but here goes anyway.

i still think the one you bought from us was a male, it looked good the first time we had it, the second time not so much

yeah rob but the people on mfk say that how to tell a female is they will have a blotch on the gill plate and a blotch on the dorsal and it appears to have both of those on it and the red belly which i thought leaned towards female.

I can't really tell you anything from those pics. Any chance of getting some better pics with a better camera?

both sexes dig pits and if it has the mark on the dorsal and a lot of red on its belly its a female heres a pic of my new male
