Found on the Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico) very colorful, and can be just as agressive. Look best in breeding colors. Females tend to be more colorful than males, and are identified (my preferred method) by a dark patch in the center of the dorsal fin.
Will get around 6-7" long and I've been told that a mating pair will need 100 gallons. I've kept a few and think they'll do fine in 55 or more. Should be mixed with other sa/ca cichlids with similar temperment like JD's, GT's, firemouths, etc...
Have seen IME that they will be somewhat shy and hide if they are not one of the dominant fish in the tank.
