Salvini compatibility

Is a salvini compatible with the followning species

Oscar
Jack Dempsey
Jurapari
Severum
Nicaraguensis
Firemouth

most of them would work my dads kept them with nicaraguensis, oscar, cons, jags, gold saum. stuff like that will work.
 
unless the tank is really large, I wouldn't mix with jurupari, since they are way too docile especially compared to salvinis and cichlids like that.
 
depends on individual, I have a 6" female who is super aggressive, she lives with a larger festae, trimac and black belt and runs the tank!
 
Male salvini's are super aggressive. They have no problem killing a 10" fish at only half the size. They are beligerent when they don't like their tankmates. The only tankmate I have been able to keep with my Large male is a con. I have seen 14" trimac's and FH back down to 6-7" Salvini's. Severums are not a good idea and neither is the jurupari. The Nic may get trashed too. It all depends on the individual though.
 
It depends on how big your setup is . . . But like any fish, it varies. The salvini that I have had are generally not aggressive unless they are breeding, then they would try to kill other fish, just like any other good cichlid parents. :)
 
I have a 4 inch female salvini with 2 severums (one 6 inches the other maybe 3), jack dempsey (6 inches), oscar (8 inches), and a green terror (3 inches) and the salvini is the lowest on the pecking order, but it claimed a territory in a tree root and is never ever unhealthy. It is even afraid of the littlest severum though, but it has also been housed with a texas and a nicaraguense before and it was fine too.

They are smart and they hide, but mine isn't really over aggressive, just territorial. Very different from the severums or the oscar, they kinda just swim around all the time.

btw mine is in a 75 gallon (yeah its overstocked, but I am getting rid of the jack dempsey as soon as I go to st louis)

my sal isnt aggressive atall realy, he isnt one of the biggest tho??? and never will be:)
