So my 3 inch slavini managed to fit one of my baby convicts in its throat. I can see the tail in his mouth. His mouth is stuck wide open and he's just hanging out in his cave. It's been like that for about 24 hours. Should I take any action or should he be fine?

I would just keep an eye on it to see if the situation can resolve itself. If the starts to look like its struggling then you may no choice but to try and extract the prey item yourself

If it was me and it has been 24 hours I would get in there with some tweezers or needle nose pliers and get the prey out. that is just what I would do. unless the fish swallowed has barbs it should be ok to pull out.

I was thinking the same thing about the barbs, would a convict have them?

Some months ago my female jag had one of her hybrid offspring(Tex/jag)that managed to get through a divider stuck in her mouth....after about a day I ended up having to cut it out with a pair of scissors...it wasn't going down or coming out any other way...

Cut it out? I'm not sure how to go about that. Was just thinking tweezers.

Mature convicts have spiny dorsal fins that are essentially barbs, but I don't know at what age these spine harden and become rigid. So, like cich78, you should get a super small snipping scissor and remove the prey piece by piece so as not to lacerate the salvini's gullet.

Difficult may be that the salvini is young and his mouth is pretty small. I guess on the plus side, the convict was prob half an inch long so far from mature.
