Well, all, I am back at the cichlids! Been working on anabantids for the last 3 years but now back at my true love; CA's!

I have the crazy notion of adding the red found on a Salvini to the blue of an EBJD! Kinda like the photoshopped avatar I have.

I fully understand the EBJD breeding. My question is on the Salvini side. I have seen a few S hybrids and they seem to show no red, but the F2 (genetics use of that term, not aquariast) generation should show at least a few with red. Does anyone have experience with Salvini hybrids?

Im not an expert on genetics but i am pretty sure to wind up with a salvini hybrid displaying a good amount of red you would first need a strain of salvini displaying lots of red.. You would be better off going after a line of salvinis collected from a certain location. I think the strain dan from coa carries is one of the better lines for red (forget the actual location - grijalva?) Im pretty sure thats a top location that was mentioned by rusty wessell during one of his presentations.

I wouldn't want to ruin what the salvini looks like. They're one of the most beautiful cichlids out there imo.
I've seen them mixed with convicts though, they looked like convicts of coarse haha.
