Salvini loves my Jack Dempsey?

My jack is a full grown aprox 8in big male, not super aggressive. Mostly lazy but territorial of his cave. My salvini is about maybe 4 inches. Had him since he was about 2 inches and beat up in a pet store.

My salvini LOVES my jack. He follows him all over swims side by side. Even runs off my silver dollar if he gets too close to my jack lol

Why? Any thoughts?

Not sure, sometimes cichlids act weird and like each other.

I had a salvo I and a jack that were best of friends years ago! I had that salvo I for a long time it got quite big, haven’t seen one as big since.

They both originate from the same basal ancestor, and if one is female, its not that surprising.

I was reading, they can hybridize if given time and a few attempts. I’m not sure how good it would look though, or if you would want that to happen.
