Hey All I´ve had my female salvini since just before christmas and in that time she has grown very rapidly has lots of blue spangles on her and is very aggressive, she even looks like shes starting to develop a Nuchal hump. I suppose my question is, do I just have a very aggressive female with really good genes, Or is it a suprisingly bright coloured male? I´ve never doubted it until the other day I noticed she has long trailing fins and lots of blue.
also she is around or just under 3" so still pretty small.

At first glance it does look a bit male-ish, but I believe you are correct in thinking it's a female. The markings that usually distinguish females (black blotch on dorsal and lower gill plate) are just not quite as bold on yours.

Yeah may I add that she has the black blotch only on her left cheek, the right is completely clear. its a very confusing fish to sex

Pretty trciky if u ask me. while the markings are barely there they are still visible. i would lean towards female. if a convict had even one orange dot i would still say its female so if i see a cheek dot and dorsal blotch no matter how slight its still a good indicator on sex. Imo. i have a rediculously aggressive female too. actually shes 3" and her cheek and dorsal blotch became more prominant when she was with a male.

thats interesting, so youre saying as she grows she will start looking more female? do you have a picture of yours woofy?

Her markings could very well change as she matures. I wish I had pics of the female I use to have. She looked 100% female from day one. Very large black blotch on her dorsal and lower gill plate. Her stomach was also completely red. Such an awesome looking fish, wish I still had her!

thanks guys, So everyones pretty sure I have a female thats good I was starting to wonder if I had a male all along.
