My salvinis spawned about a month ago. There are about 75 1/2" fry swimming all around the 55 gallon tank and the parents still defend them.

I always heard that males will often turn on the female after breeding and can even kill her, but I'm experiencing the opposite. My female is nipping fins and bumping mouths with the male, and he doesn't retaliate.

I must need to separate them again. Will the fry be safe if I do? Do the females do this often?

Yes in some cases the female will kill a larger male. Most of the times the male will want to spawn again and kill the female.

Yeah he's literally twice her size...at least. I separated them. I hope the juveniles make it!
