Hello all, I have a 55 gallon currently holding a Texas and 6 silver dollars. As expected the Texas has grown to large and now I am looking for new options. I have always enjoyed the antics of cichlid breeding so I was thinking of a pair of Salvini cichlids and maybe a fire mouth or something similar. I would also be keeping the silver dollars.

So, 55 gallon w/ 500 gph
2 Salvini
1 Firemouth
6 Silver Dollars

Any issues yall see?
Thank You for reading!

If you end up with a compatible pair (not so easy) your other fish will suffer in a 55. I'd try a pair of firemouth or a pair of blue acara

Agreed. Those silver dollars and fire mouth would be in a bad place.

I was planning to get 6 juveniles from Jeff Rapps and grow them out and hope for a pair. Would the eventual Salvini Pair be okay with the 6 Silver Dollars?

In my limit experience as well as everything I've read, breeding cichlids you need to either have them solo or have a lot of room. I had a pair of jewels try spawning and forces all my jack Dempseys to the other side of the tank.

Salvinis are especially nasty.

I've kept them once, I've found them very aggressive I remember my pair taking over 3/4 of a 110 gallon tank...

Sals are great fish, but not community. If you end up with a pair in a 55 be prepared to have a time out tank for the female, I had two pair breeding at one time(different tanks), and in both cases it went south very quickly.
