Has anyone ever crossbred these before, or know what to expect out of these breeds? I have a 5 inch Salvini female and an 8 inch Jack Dempsey male in a 55 gallon that just spawned for the first time. (I wasn't really expecting that!) I came home yesterday to a bunch of eggs in a flowerpot, to my pleasant surprise. :grinno: I will post pics if I successfully get some good fry out of this batch.

Yeah. I just can't find a picture of a Sal x Dempsey anywhere. So I'm very curious to see if anyone has a pic of one.

Hate to bump an old thread, but I've never had any luck getting fry out of this "cross." The Sal would lay eggs about once a month, and they would never even make it into the wriggler stage, which leads me to believe they were never properly fertilized. Then in March it was as if she gave up, and she hasn't produced any eggs since. However, after doing a bigger water change than I normally do, the Salvini was guarding her flower pot like she used to. Only this time, the Jack Dempsey has stuck beside her in defending the flower pot from their two jewel tank mates; he has never done so. I know this cross will probably never work, but at least this gives me a tiny glimmer of hope that this time maybe it will.

i think if you get wigglers then they should be able to raise them,but to be sure syphon off some to raise separately.my ex-GF had a salvini crossed with a texas,nasty SOB
