Salvini's tail fin is not growing back?

I own a salvini cichlid. I have had him for 1 month now. Before they're used to be a green terror, and it bit my salvini's tail. It has been almost 2 weeks since he got bit and it is still not growing back? I feed him a WIDE variety of foods and I do 25% water changes every other day or so. How can his tail grow back? it is like a slice in the middle.

You can use melafix but it may be permenanrly damaged if it gets ripped too far back it won't grow back

I'm guessing that it's had some more damage done that just minor fin-nipping, I once had an african cichlid that had most of it's tail bit off by a kenyi, It never recovered and eventually died, but that probably won't happen to yours, like mentioned before, use melafix and make sure he's not being harassed.

It takes time to heal a wound. Don't worry, I'm sure it will recover. I have a female JD that lost it whole tail 2 years ago. It took it months to recover. You can never tell she had such a nasty wound now.
