here's one for everybody i bought a samsung fridge in 2006 in 2008 the fan on the fridge side went bad and the evep core was froze over since then i have thawed it twice called samsung and they sent out a repairman today my drain in the fridge for condensation was clogged the repair called samsung and they told him my fridge is freezing up because my icemaker makes to much ice so it freezes up my evap core in the fridge wants me to pay to put heated clips on drain line what do you guys think of this

nope out of warrenty but the last person i talked said they extend my warrenty

im unsure how a known issue with the fridge/freezer design would relate to the warranty. could be worth checking it out to see if you have any rights even outside of the warranty if its a known design issue. a warranty covers breakdown due to manufacturing faults but this isnt a manufacturing fault its a design flaw, 2 different issues. as its a design flaw the manufacturer would be breaking the sale of goods act as the ice maker is not fit for the intended purpose and its not of a satisfactory standard as it keeps breaking. this would be your get out clause in the UK at least, out of warranty or not your not an engineer so you cant know it was a fault or design flaw before you bought it.

now i understand your not in the UK but surely companies have to follow some kind of trading standards in the US as well. its worth looking into. i would specifically look into the fact they are charging you for parts to fix their design mistakes. its not an ordinary breakdown which a warranty contract covers.

its definitely worth checking with your trading standards authority.

i think thats bs, make them pay for it. same kind of thing happened to me. bought a brand new samsung fridge with icemaker and water filter, etc. and the things a piece of crap. the door was broken when we bought it and they still havent repaired it and the icemaker is faulty.

did you find out anything more about them fixing it or you having to pay to get it fixed properly.

It seems that nowadays you really have to check store policy and read up on all of the warranty information in order to make an appliance purchase. My mother bought one of those fancy flat tv's from Walmart and it died in about two months, she had purchased the extended warranty and I helped her take the thing back only to be told that the store didnt accept defective electronics after a period of time, extended warranty or not.

in the uk sometimes the shops wont take them back after a period of time has passed. but the maufacturer has to honour the 12 month warranty. ultimately the warranty is the manufacturers responsibility, its usually a stores choice.
tell her to speak to the manufacturer and they have to honour the guarantee free of charge unless you caused the fault.
a good store take them back and replace without fuss, asda in the uk do i took a tv back after 3 years with no box or receipt and they took it back because only they stocked that brand. i got a better tv and £15 back as the tv had dropped in price since i bought it.

After many phone calls we did get in touch with the right person at the manufacturer's office and they did arrange to have the item shipped to them and a new one was sent to my mother, after about a month.
