Sanchezi vs spilo

definitely not the same fish. Sanchezi's can be the red kind or the purple kind. Pretty much the same but the purple has a purple tint to its upper body. Purple spilo is probably a mislabeling. Importers arent exactly scientists. They sell by common names not scientific. Ruby red spilos is just a variant of the normal gold spilo. Macs and spilos are almost impossible to tell apart (besides knowing the collection point) according to current science.
Serrasalmus Sanchezi can be red or purple, and are often times referred as red/purple throat spilo
Serrasalmus Spilopluera is commonly referred to as Ruby Red Spilo, there are 2 varieties I know about, gold and ruby red. They are usually the most aggressive Piranha species and the reds are very rare, 8-10x more money then a Sanchezi and gold Spilopluera.
Both reach about 4-6"
If it were me id choose ruby red Spilopluera!
