Hey guys

I'm thinking about picking up a Serrasalmus Sanchezi for my 4' tank but I wonder if getting this fish small (I am assuming I'd buy one under 3") and putting him in such a large tank will be a detriment to him. Would it be better instead to separate have the tank with a screen and put something else in the other side? I know a lot of people use a grow out tank for their larger fish when they are small, so I'm curious as to it's necessity for a fish that's only expected to reach 7" in adulthood (which will take a while).

Thanks.

i really don't like tank dividers unless you have no other choice, they can cause alot of stress. if you are looking at getting a nice fish for a 4' tank but want something that will fill it out a bit better, you have quite a few other options. is the tank a 55, 75, or something else?

The tank is a 55. I really like the look and personality (from what I can tell) of a Sanchezi, but you're right, I'm afraid he won't fill out the tank. I think once he grew up it would be fine but while he is a smaller fish it might not be a good idea.

I've been reading this forum for a while now and you seem to be somewhat of an expert on Piranhas in general. Do you have any suggestions or remedies? Your help is very much appreciated. Thank you!

sorry for the late response, i've been moving (it sucked, haha). in a 55, a good sized sanchezi would fill it out pretty well, so would a mac, eigenmanni, or a small rhom. you have quite a few options, especially if you can upgrade tanks in the future. if you like the sanchezi, i say go with that.
