Howdy,

Sanchezi is just a wild guess, I'd appreciate your thoughts.

I saw these guys all together in a tank at my store (10/$225). Obviously, some aggression (fins nipped), but all in all, has anyone ever kept them in a group for life?

Thanks a lot,
HarleyK

Look like sanchezis. Kept usually solo. They are too aggressive with tank mates even their own kind. Very few have been able to keep in groups. But they can be kept in schools but will need large tanks, lot of decor/hiding spots and very very well fed.

Did you ask them how many they started with? lol

Half kidding. I've had a sachezi for around three years now, and I breed convicts for him as a treat. Although I've never kept more than one sachezi in a tank , he takes out 75% of the fish that I put in with him (purposely for live food). IMO, if they are expensive, it is not worth the risk. The pics given above inform us that they are not comfortable being housed together (clearly).

Not that my opinion is useful, I do hope you keep us posted if you try a multi-sanchezi cohab. Good luck sir!

Guess SA is your local fish store. Mine too (and AS).. I saw this group last weekend and told the people there they had to break them up immediately if they didn't want to lose most of them. As stated, they are Sanchezis but they just have them marked as Red Throat Piranhas. They definitely need to be kept solo but the one guy told me they "probably didn't have enough space". Unfortunate, I'm sure there have been casualties already.

I'd say sanchezi as well. All piranhas shoal in the wild, and they're obligate fin feeders so we don't have a lot of success keeping some of them in tiny glass boxes.

I don't think there's any successful long term cohan documented. you can give it a try but be prepared to have casualties
