Hello everyone. I have always kept my plecs on gravel or barebottom tanks. Anyway, my 100g has an algea problem that I have been battling for a while with a razor and a mag float. I have some room in there since a fish died from getting cut on a dangerous decoration, and all thats in there at the moment are an 8" oscar, 6" severum, and 4" Geo. Steindachneri. My LFS has a stunning 8" royal pleco for 40$ and i want to pick it up tomorrow, but i was wondering if there is a problem with plecos and sand substrate? I doubt they can safely "suck it" without getting a sandy mouth. Is it safe?

they will produce a whole lot of nitrates, which will help to feed algae growth. You also need driftwood with these Panaques and they will need to be fed veggies etc. However, they will do fine with sand.
