Okay not to beat a dead horse, but I have removed all my gravel in prep for my henlei ray to arrive soon. I was going to use a fine black gravel but noticed the white bottom looks better with an all black background. So I am considering going to buy some white pool sand instead, what are the pro and cons to cleaning and puting it in a tank full of fish already. What is a best method to cleaning the sand. I have one TSN, blk arrow, florida gar, and one Indo dat all 15in or better. Also I am thinking of buying a male motoro also to go with the male henlei any caution there I should know about.
Thanks in advance

I am not sure there are many options as white. Most of it is pretty fine and will stick. Estes probably sells some and so does 3m.

3m has some good sand, just make sure not to put more than an inch in your tank

Besides sticking to your rays, and to everything, the biggest con with pool filter sand is it's so damn light, so when the rays kick it up it gets sucked up into your filters and slowly destroys the impellers.

I use a foam intake cover with sand if the impeller can get hit by it. It's a good idea no matter what sort of sand you have.

Whatever you decide stay away from the man made stuff because it will cloud your water. Take a fist full and give it a good squeeze. If your palm is chaulky afterwards, stay away from it. This type of sand was pulverized to this size and you'll be washing it for weeks. Try to find a beach that has clean sand and borrow some: )

Caribsea makes some great substrates for rays. I would avoid anything that is coated.
