i replaced gravel to sand and i know this is old topic but i wanted to find out if you can turn on the hob and filtration canister right after the sand settles. should i replaced media with floss or just let it run its course before putting in my stock. i dont want to lose my media and dont want to cycle my tank. this is my first attempt with sand thanks all

I just went through this on my 125....I think the key was really rinsing the **** out of the sand before putting it in the tank. It took a long time, pretty damn tedious to be sure. The next morning the tank was pretty clear but I gave it another 24hrs. Took the Fx5 off the 75g and added my fish. So far, so good.
Getting use to vacuuming the sand takes time, I guess practice makes perfect.
I have never really had any problems putting sand ito tank. I use Leslie's Pool Filter sand. I just put it in the tank straight out of the bad. There is a little bit of cloudiness, but that's what I use the "Other" HOB for, cloudiness removal.
