i was thinking about just pouring some pool filter sand over my current pea gravel and seeing how it looks...
has anyone done this and did you like it? what kind of sand? PICS!!???
thanks everyone

Personally, I wouldn't. I got most of my gravel out before changing to sand, and eventually the gravel surfaces and doesn't look too good IMO. However, I will say it would definitely depend on the gravel you have now.

Every time I do a water change I try to get a little more out. But, again that's just my personal preference, hence why I included pictures.

Yeah i did the same thing. Left a little bit of gravel when i put in my sand. Regret it now because it looks messy. Sand compacts and rocks always come to to top.
Not many rocks left in my tank now though. What i do it take a small aquarium net and scoop up as much rocks and sand as i can and the sand filters out leaving only the rocks. Its a pain, go straight sand.

:iagree:

to each his own...
i actually like that look. looks alot more natural. but i have natural gravel not blue :) it also darkens up the sand which is one of my concerns is my fish getting washed out
i might do a few diff sizes of rock as well.
but lets see more pics to help me decide :)
thanks guys

Yeah I do agree that it depends on the gravel you would have in it currently. As for the washed out fish, I am going with a darker sand for my new 180 gallon build. Probably black or a dark red.

can you find black sand for around the same price as pfs tho?

Have to admit that looks quite nice.
