I'm looking at a 15,000 litre (3300 imp/3960 US Gallons) indoor pond (for Koi).

Also being in the process of converting some more space into fish related space, I'm feeling the pinch. I appreciate I should never save money at the expense of decent filtration, but are sand/bead filters that important indoors (especially when they have their critics for even being included)?

How many fish do you plan on having, if you are going to stock your indoor pond heavy, i would not skimp on filtration. I have an indoor 1500 gallon koi tank. I personally think the pressurized bead/sand filters are a waste of money. You can build a diy filter out of 55 gallon plastic drums and have for filtration than the pressurized filters. Also dont forget to atleast have a 40 watt uv light.

the sand bead filters are used for biological bacteria to grow on. like stated before me you can build/buy other filters cheaper and that work better. get some drums and throw lava rock in it.. it will clean/buff the water and create surface area for the benifcial bacteria to grow on. aka wet dry filter for the pond.....

+1 with drums or totes.

Lava rock in a pinch. Many other medias avail. that won't clog like lava rock does.
