sand + bottom feeders = potential problem?

I watch my cory cats and dojo suck sand in and shoot it out through their gills... It looks awesome and keeps the bottom clean, but are there any potential problems with sand getting stuck in the gills or impact?

well, my weather (dojo) loach does the same

he's been doing if for a looong time, and nothing wrong so far

If the sand is too big, then it could get stuck in the gills of the fish but if it is small enough then you'll be fine
