sand causing skin irritation

my big senegul and african brown knife seen to always be scuffed up since i switched to sand substrate. it seems only my high-motion fish are getting scratched because the slower inhabitants are fine. anybody else expierence this? its black coarse all-purpose aquarium sand, forget brand name. thanks

I've had good results with senegal polypterus and standart home depot play sand.
I felt bad for not buying proper aquarium sand but it seems to have payed off.

And polypterus are so hardy, that sand must be really bad.

yikes, no i dont. sry. i dont mean they have huge gashes or anything, just light scrapes. they heal overnight, ive now added some salt too.
