Here is Rosie my Trimac under a normal fluorescent light. I am planning to redo her tank decor with Sandtastick floral substrate which comes in lots of different colors. Any ideas what would look the best with her?

Thinking maybe turquoise or a burnt orange, but not sure. Maybe brick red. Will also add a custom background of some kind. My fiancé is a commercial artist and wants things just so. Though I’m not quite sure what that means.... :nilly::WHOA::wall:

Know a few members used black sand. It made the Trimac colors pop a bit.

Personally I hate black substrate, I would lean towards something more natural. IME, and IMO, probably best to just let the fiancé choose. Get used to it. lol

Was going to go for something lighter. Yeah sure, she can choose, but that means a series of texts with all the possibilities! Should not have shown her the Sandtastik color chart. Haaa. Who am I kidding, I love that she wants to be involved!

I'm also not a fan of any color except natural sand.
But especially, colors like red or blue or any of those un-natatural hues that actually distract from the fish itself.

You could mix red and white sand. In nature there are all kinds of colored bottoms  depending on whether its red mud, brown silt, green plant matter, white, brown, red coral or black sand in the mediterranean. Nature isn't as bland as people think.

Only thing with black sand its too overwhelming in a larger tank and makes it perpetually gloomy unless you have bright deco and background and that might get a little weird.

I'm a color nut and fully believe color makes your fish color up. My parrots totally colored up over bright sand and have never washed out since. Same with my O...even the sev is getting into the act, turning navy blue then silver.

Yeah that is more or less my thinking, though tend to go for muted lighter colors myself. We are adding this second tank so want my SO to be on board as much as possible and let her do what she wants. But that color chart Sandtastik has is insane.

To complement the color of your fish I would suggest

19, 28, 31, or 39

Or a mix of 41/42, 19/32, 2/39, 24/25, 2/24, 2/42

If you get the floral sand you need about 15 percent less than a sand calculator tells you. My 225 ended up with 1 1/2 " depth with 85 lbs! I've still got leftover boxes.

Thanks! These suggestions will be sent off for review! . The new setup will occur in a couple of months when I move, so some time to figure it out.
